For all who joined us at last month's meeting, I hope you learned something new about CEED and its Women Business Certifications. I believe that for some business owners attending it truly was their next step in the process of growth for their business, and for those who it wasn't a fit for, perhaps you can pass it on as a resource for others. Please take a look at the CEED website for more details:

Or contact Pam if you have any questions, she is very willing to be of service to all of us:

In past years July has been our annual open house, but because it is typically a time when people are on vacation, we decided to move our open house to September, and have July be a fun, celebratory networking event. Please join us at Big George's on Tuesday, July 13th, 6:00-8:00, and enjoy connecting with the women of WBO. We have some great structured networking opportunities for everyone to participate in! You will leave with connections and appreciation for the women of WBO! We look forward to seeing you then!

All my best,
Theresia Radtke
2010 WBO President
June Meeting Summary:
Our guest speaker was an enthusiastic woman named Pam Smith who took on the mission and role of CEED.  CEED is the Center for Economical Education and Development.  This organization certifies women owned businesses and enterprises.  When a business submits and application, it is investigated thoroughly to determine the ownership and participation of the owner in the business and its daily operations.  Pam was very, very clear is stating that the role of the woman owner was crucial to the certification.  Once the business is certified, it is put on a list made available to corporations looking for businesses to work with on their projects and contracts.

This program is a government sponsored certification and focused on encouraging and expanding the number of woman owned business in this country. It was good to hear of this program and to know to pass the information on to women starting or presently in a business.

WBO would like to thank Mark Bishar and Big George's for hosting our summer networking picnic on  their Green Roof .  The new showroom was constructed with an eco-friendly 'green roof'. Here's a litttle info provided by Mark about the "green roof":

roof top
Our green roof helps us conserve energy and reduce our company's carbon footprint on the environment. Utilizing our roof space in this manner is not only an environmentally smart choice, but an economically smart one as well, saving our company energy costs in the long run. Our commitment to the environment doesn't end here. We are a major retailer of E-Star products.

 A
Green Roof is a layer of living vegetation that is installed on the top of a conventional flat or sloping roof. Some of the benefits of installing a green roof are:

To conserve energy by moderating temperature on roof and surrounding areas
·  Dramatically reduce storm runoff volume and peak flow rate
· Restore the ecological and aesthetic value of urban open space
· Protect conventional roofing systems, typically doubling the service life of the underlying waterproofing membrane.
· Improve our quality of life

Recently Big George's has added solar panels to their line up of earth friendly products for sale. http://www.big-georges.com/solar-energy-products.aspx
