President's Message
Get Connected!
There is no disputing how vital and valuable human
connection is for a person's
overall well-being- we've seen the data- and
unfortunately we've seen the disaster when
individuals are void of the ability to form true and
meaningful connections.
What about in business? What do we need to do to
keep a business healthy? How do we help it grow in
positive, profitable, and constructive ways? A key
component of the mission of WBO is to provide and
promote networking opportunities.
Networking - Making connections to make
exchange
easier. Developing contacts- sharing information
and ideas. Getting to know people and businesses to
develop trust and communication that will make the
process of business easier and more profitable.
Regardless of your previous thoughts and feelings
about Networking- WBO will highlight the true and
tremendous value inherent in networking
opportunities when "Your Wedding Team" takes
center stage at the June meeting. YWT will explain
how a group of 10+ women business owners have
come together to form a dynamic marketing vehicle for
their small businesses.
Join us Tuesday June 5th for this inspiring example
of networking success.
"We don't accomplish anything in this world
alone- and whatever happens is a result of the whole
tapestry of one's life and all the weavings of individual
threads from one to another that creates something."
-Sandra Day O'Connor

| Meeting Update- "How to Live to Be a Healthy 100" |
 |
|
Pamela W. Smith, MD is board-certified in anti-aging
medicine and
is an internationally known speaker and author on the
subject of wellness, anti-aging and functional
medicine. She is currently the owner and director of
The Center For Healthy Living and Longevity with
locations in Bloomfield Hills, Ann Arbor, Center Line,
Rochester, Flint, Saginaw, and Traverse City,
Michigan. She is a member of the American Academy
of Anti-Aging Physicians and is a board examiner. Dr.
Smith is the Director of The Anti-Aging and Functional
Medicine Fellowship which is the only fellowship in
this field in the United States. She is also the author of
the best selling book, "HRT: The Answers". Her new
book entitled "Vitamins: Hype or Hope?" has also
recently been published.
Dr Smith presented three main tips on how to live to
be a healthy 100. She pointed out that statistics show
that if you are currently 50 years old and don't have a
major accident, you will live to be 100. But who wants
to be 100 and in a nursing home? Our goal for
longevity is to be healthy and having fun at 100.
Tip 1: WATER! Drink ½ of your body weight in
water each
day (ounces). If you weigh 160 pounds, you should
drink 80 ounces of water. That is about five 16oz.
water bottles. Dr. Smith reported that the best water
is 'steam distilled' since it has fewer chemicals in it.
Floride and chlorine can have toxic effects on the
body. She also pointed out that most home sources
of water have been chlorinated; you should avoid
letting the shower water soak your face - to limit
wrinkles and chemical damage to your skin.
All the chemicals in our food, soda, coffee, medicines,
and the irritants to our bladders can be limited by
getting enough water. "The solution to pollution is
dilution". Drink your water.
Tip 2: Avoid Aspartame There is a report
from the 1980s in the FDA that identifies the following
effects of aspartame (artificial sweetener, found in
most soft drinks):
Dizziness, Visual Impairment,
Disorientation, Ear Buzzing, Severe
Muscle Aches, Numbness of Extremities, Episodes of
High Blood Pressure, Abdominal Cramps, Memory
Loss, Headaches
And Aspartame is about 400 times sweeter than
sugare which makes your body crave more
sweetness. The same is true of other artificial
sweeteners. Stevia is an acceptable, natural
sweetener.
Tip 3: Be Hormonally Sound Dr. Smith
emphases the science of hormones. Current science
and testing allows
for saliva tests to define the actual balance of
hormones in your body. This testing allows for
accurate natural additives to balance the hormones in
your body. It allows for specific changes to be made
in order to keep your body functioning normally.
Typical testing looks for the balance in all the
hormones made in our bodies including:
- Estrogen: the body makes three types of
estrogen.
- Estrone (found in studies to be linked to
breast cancer)
- Estradiol (provides the functions for hormonal
balance in our bodies)
- Estriol (found to help prevent breast cancer)
Dr. Smith recommends replacement with a
combination of Estradiol and Estriol. Estriol is not
made by pharmaceutical companies as it is a
naturally occurring substance and there is no patent
on it. Any compounding pharmacy can help.
- Progesterone: balances estrogen. Synthetics are
progestins and are not the same as naturally
occurring progesterone. Be wary of the over the
counter progesterones as you must be balanced in
your hormone levels for safety. If you take extra and
upset the balance you put yourself at risk for health
problems including diabetes. Please consult your
doctor for specific hormone testing before taking any
hormone replacements!
- Testosterone- Plays a key role in maintaining
human health, strength and energy. While primarily
considered a male hormone, testosterone is also
necessary for a woman's health.
- DHEA - comes from cholesterol; it rejuvenates
virtually every organ system, so it "actually makes you
look, feel, and think better."
- Cortisol- yes, cortisol
and stress can buid fat around your waist. However it
is necessary for good health. Excessive chronic
stress eventually depletes cortisol levels and levels
drop. This stage is called adrenal fatigue. Abnormally
low cortisol levels contribute to chronic fatigue,
depression and poor immune defenses making a
person more vulnerable to developing diseases,
infections and even cancers.
ALL of these hormones are vital to healthy life and
healthy functioning of our organs. Balance and low
stress are the keys to keeping healthy hormonal
levels.
THE GOOD NEWS!
All of this is fixable with specific testing available
through qualified physicians right here in Ann Arbor.
Contact the Centers For Healthy Living at 313-884-
3288 for an appointment to assess your individual
hormonal levels and learn how to enhance your body
for function and healthy aging. You have nothing to
lose and years of better health and function to gain.
You are definitely worth it!

| Spread the Word - Amy Hale, Changing Lanes, LLC |
 |
|
Amy Hale, a Clinical Hypnotherapist, is owner of
Changing Lanes, LLC in Plymouth, Michigan. Amy
helps her clients get out of their own way so that they
can move into their full potential.
Hypnotherapy and Neuro-Linguistic Programming
(NLP) are tools which can be used to remove blocks
that hinder a person's progress toward a prosperous
and fulfilling future. Both have been successfully used
to help individuals gain confidence in various activities
including social engagements, smoking cessation,
weight loss and building a prosperous business; and
they have been proven useful in helping people make
more effective decisions for both business and
personal use.
This is only the tip of the iceberg for its many uses and
purposes. Hypnotherapy uses a state of mind similar
to focused thought with higher and more potent
awareness, allowing the user to look at challenging
situations from multiple points of view. With this new
perspective and new awareness, a person can let go
of self-sabotage and use a better outlook to move
forward on the road to a more rewarding future.
NLP is a useful option to help move you towards your
goals. It can be used to provide the
subject more control on how the mind processes
sensory data. When used with hypnotherapy, NLP has
been especially successful in
helping people with social anxiety, phobias and
achieving goals.
Amy uses a coaching model to administer these tools
with her clients in order to move them into a more
positive attitude so that they can achieve their goals
and experience success more often.
Amy offers free initial consultation to help you become
acquainted with the healing aspects and the
exceptional tools which can be used to move toward
your goals.
