To WBO Members and Guests,

WBO President: Theresia RadtkeIt is quite an inspiration to hear from very successful women business owners who have done it and then share their wisdom with all of us. We had just that guest with us in April, Muriel Converse. I'm glad she was a part of our WBO experience this year! You can read more of her story in the April summary.

We also welcomed Sally Schmall officially to our WBO Board, and are delighted to have her energy be an addition to our leadership team! She will make a great WBO President in 2011!

As an additional update, instead of our July Open house, we decided to have a potluck picnic and celebrate being Women Business Owners! We will have more details about this event coming up. We will still be having our Open House, but it will be in September instead as we are all getting back in gear after the summer.

Come and join in our energy, networking and fun as we hear from Tee Thompson on May 11th. I'll request to have more chairs at the beginning of the night this time around! We look forward to seeing you there!

All my best,
Theresia Radtke
2010 WBO President
April Meeting Summary:

What a delight it was to have Muriel Converse as our guest speaker on April 13, 2010.  In addressing our group, she h ad two purposes to share:  SCORE and her own story.

As a former member of the U of M faculty, Muriel found that her own personal challenges were not being met in the world of academia.  After much thought and the support of her husband, she launched her own business.  I emphasized her remarks that she spent a great deal of time determining that her business idea was viable and that she had the support she needed as well as the financial piece of the plan. A hand-out gave the topics to consider when starting a business.

After some smaller contracts for survey work, her success lead to major contracts in the auto industry and the need to use her house as collateral for obtaining the newest, most

sophisticated computer and programs to complete the project.  Success in a man's world  l lead her to become a

counselor for SCORE after selling her business.

The SCORE office is connected with Cleary University on the northeast side of Ann Arbor and their website offers many options and ways to connect with their services to help those starting and struggling with businesses.

Muriel's gracious and heart-warming story was appreciated by all.  Thank you, Muriel for sharing your story with us.
